Express.GoToAssist.com

June 30, 2008

If you ever have a friend calling who needs computer help, this new program is a great help. It allows you to have your friend logon to a website, download and install a program and you’ll soon be able to view and control their desktop.
Right now it’s in a free Beta mode and the pricing is unknown.
I’ve tried it out and it appears to work great.

Resizing Photos – the easy way.

June 29, 2008

Since the photos from my camera tend to be on the large size – usually about 3000kb, I don’t like to email or post such large files. While I could open Photoshop and resize the file that way, another quick and easy way is to just right click on the file and choose – Resize Picture.

You don’t have many options, but it does work fairly well.
It will take a 2258KB file and reduce it 122KB.
Unfortunately it doesn’t change the dpi to 72 dpi, but stays at the original dpi.
All in all, for many instances – it’s great.

Higher Quality on YouTube

June 28, 2008

If you like to see a higher quality video on YouTube add this to the end of the URL:
&fmt=18.

If there’s a better quality video available, you’ll get it.

Note – it’s too bad that WordPress limits us to the low quality version.

FREE – Drive Image Backup

June 28, 2008

It’s VERY important to backup not only your data, but also you main C: while it’s running well. You never know when disaster will strike – a virus or malware will take over, a new program will mess things up etc.

If you have a backup of your main drive, you just restore from a known good installation and you’re back up running again. I use and recommend Acronis True Image, but another FREE program I’ve found is “Runtime Software – Drive Image Backup.” It’s not quite as friendly and easy to use as Acronis, but it is free.

Note – I make it a practice that BEFORE I install any new program I do a backup.

Blue Snowflake Microphone

If you’re looking for an inexpensive USB microphone give the Blue Snowflake Microphone a try. Leo LaPorte recommends it and that’s good enough for me. Use Google to find it online.
