Scanning for Malicious Software

January 30, 2009

One way to run Microsoft’s Malicious Software Removal Tool on your own terms is this simple task. Go to Start – Run and then type in mrt and then click on the “ok” button. The software starts and just follow it through the prompts. It gives you three options, either the quick scan or thorough scan or a quick scan and a folder you choose. I’d try the thorough scan at night while you sleep and see what it finds.

Firefox – Open a New Tab

January 20, 2009

By holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on a link you will open that link in a new tab.

You can also right-click on a link and choose – open in a new tab, but the above tip is much faster.

You can open a plain new tab by hitting – Ctrl T.

I’d recommend that everyone do a disk copy at least every 6 months.

You’ll thank me the next time you get some malware on your computer.

Monitor Your Minutes

I ended up last month with an extra $100 on my phone bill because I used more than my 1000 minutes.

One tip I learned is that just by calling the phone company, they reduced the overage by 40%. I didn’t even ask.

I also learned the lesson of monitoring my minutes as I get close to the end of my billing cycle. One of the tabs on my DAILY tabs that I look at in Firefox is a tab for my cell phone. I do have to login, but it’s worth it to save that overage charge.
