In Windows 7 there’s and easier way to use your Print Screen function – it’s called the Snip Tool.
Just type in snip in the Search bar after hitting the Start button. The Snip Tool will show up at the top. I usually drag it to my Desktop and then my Toolbar at the bottom of my screen.
Click on the New button and choose the area of the screen you want to save. It will then allow you to save that as a jpg. Once it is installed, it’s as simple as Click – Drag – Save. What can be easier.
Here are a few quirks I noticed.
- You can’t snip when you are opening the Start Menu.
- Be careful in choosing the area you want to Snip – there are not tools to modify your Snip.

Print Screen is old school. Windows 7 has built-in Snipping Tool which is better way to capture screen shot on your desktop. You can open Snipping Tool by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Snipping Tool, and then, in the list of results, click Snipping Tool.
