Robert Heron from Tekzilla recommends the ASUS RT-AC66U router.

It’s a bit expensive at $188 on Amazon, but has the latest wifi specs.
Note – it’s down to $115.

SmallNetBuider.com doesn’t give it a very good review, but to be fair that was a year ago. It still ranks it as #2 in its class.

If you want to compare routers SmallNetBuilder.com is a great place to get reviews.

Tekzilla uses a different router TP Link 1043ND – which is much less expensive. Patrick recommends using Gargoyle as a firmware update for this router. Robert says that even if you brick the router you can do a hard reset.
